I tried two new things this week – Tuna and sweetcorn burgers (a recipe that I found on Pinterest) and hash browns (something I’ve wanted to make for a while now).

The recipe for the tuna and sweetcorn burgers was from the BBC Good Food website here. It was pretty simple to do, as everything got thrown into the same bowl! The end result was delicious, crispy on the outside and full of flavour! Unfortunately, they didn’t look as good as they tasted!

shot_1361296816313For the hash browns, I used this recipe from the Channel 4 food website. Again, it was really simple and the result was quick, crispy and tasty!

shot_1361296820794Both of these recipes were really simple and quick. I’m definitely storing them away for any evenings when I don’t feel like making too much effort in the kitchen!

shot_1361269089683This week was a good one! With Valentine’s day meaning I got to spend a lovely evening with Sam, and a Little Mix concert meaning I got to spend a great day with Mum, I had a really fun week!

For Valentine’s day I cooked a nice meal and we relaxed with a movie – simple but lovely! I used these hearts as coasters so included them with the menu written on.

shot_1361269095804The Little Mix concert was great, and a good opportunity to get up and dance! They had these four lanyards in one on the merchandise stand and I thought they’d be perfect for my Project Life!

shot_1361269103336As always I included my recipe this week, which was Red Velvet Cupcakes (unfortunately rather disappointing!), and I added in a section about my new style blog that I started this week: I Am, Style Is.

shot_1361119884732For my recipe this week I wanted to try something sweet, as my recent recipes have been savoury for the most part.

Everyone raves about red velvet cupcakes, and I’ve tasted a few in my time, but have never actually baked any, so I thought it was the perfect sweet treat to try!

I decided to use the recipe from The Hummingbird Bakery’s Cake Days cookbook.

In all honesty it was a lot of effort to go to! Usually cupcakes are quick and easy to make with hardly any mess, but not these! The kitchen ended up in a state with bowls everywhere!

Unfortunately, I found the taste disappointing too. I love a rich, chocolatey cupcake and these just weren’t up to scratch. It’s a shame, but I can’t expect every recipe I try to go well! I’ll definitely be sticking to good old double chocolate in the future!

On Friday I had a lovely day in Hastings, spending some quality time with my Mum. I love being by the sea, and even though it could be a little chilly, the weather was great. We spent the day playing adventure golf and rummaging through antique shops. Here are a few snaps I took:

It was a fairly quiet week for me this week, so there wasn’t an awful lot to include in my Project Life.

shot_1361014422238You’ll see my recipe from the week, which was Philly Lemon Chicken Pasta:shot_1361014429784I also included a picture of the Lord Of The Rings jigsaw puzzle that Sam and I completed – one of our cheap date ideas:shot_1361014432141I couldn’t resist dedicating a page to the legalisation of same sex marriage. It makes me so happy that people are campaigning for equal rights and that our Country has recognised the importance of this bill.shot_1361014439840shot_1361014445896A quiet week, but one with good news!

I am a huge champion of personal style, it’s something very important to me and something I want to explore much more in my blogging.

I love that this is a personal blog that I can use to talk about events and projects in my life, and I’d like to keep it that way. I’d rather not have this blog confused with style posts, and would like to keep it for my creative adventures and personal thoughts.

For this reason I have chosen to create a second blog: I Am, Style Is, which is a style blog exploring everything from the latest products hitting the high street and independent stores to celebrity style crushes and my own personal style.

If you are interested in style and fashion then please follow I Am, Style Is, but don’t worry, I’ll still be updating this blog regularly with my personal happenings!

XOXO

Can’t Afford To Date Anymore?

cheap, date, idea, jigsaw, learn, museum, outdoors, puzzle, walk

shot_1360671118285Me and my boyfriend are both unemployed right now. Me voluntarily, him not so much. Our go-to date night used to be dinner and a movie, but we’re both watching so many £s drain from our bank accounts to pay for the necessities that we don’t dare to spend on fun. It’s something I was struggling with – feeling like we never did anything fun anymore, until I decided find inspiration for cheap ways to spend time together. Here are my top picks for cheap date ideas:

Go for a walk

Heading to your local park and taking a long walk gives you a great opportunity to just talk to each other, and enjoy the fresh air and each other’s company. If your park has courts go for a game of tennis or basketball, and don’t worry if you’re rubbish, it’ll just make for a funny story to tell!

If you have a few £s download a guidebook from treasuretrails.co.uk for a nearby town or city and spend the day discovering unknown places and interesting history. They’re cheap and fun and you’ll be surprised at some of the things you discover.

Do a puzzle

I’m a big fan of charity shops and always see tons of jigsaw puzzles in every one I go to. Usually I walk straight past, but I couldn’t resist a 1000 piece Lord Of The Rings puzzle depicting the good and evil of middle earth (total geek, I know!), for only £2.50. Sam and I worked on it together, which was really fun, and it gave us 4 days of entertainment! I’m not sure if that’s a ridiculously long amount of time to spend on a jigsaw, but it was one thousand pieces and they all looked the same! The point is though, that we enjoyed doing it together, and when we finally finished it we had such a sense of achievement, and it helped me to realise that we don’t have to spend lots of money to have fun together.

Go to a local museum or gallery

Often entry is free and as well as spending quality time with each other, you can learn stuff too! There’s an Inspiring Women exhibition at my local museum at the moment that I’m desperate to go to, and I think it’ll make a great date!

Teach each other something

I love the idea of teaching each other something we love. For me, I’d probably teach Sam to bake cupcakes or an apple crumble, and I suppose he’d teach me to play guitar or video games. I can’t promise that I’d be any good but it’d be fun to try! I think it’s always good to share what you love, whether it be cooking, art, sport, gardening or anything else, give it a go and teach someone!

What’s your favourite way to date without breaking the bank? Let me know in the comments!

beans, broccoli, chicken, dinner, green, lemon, pasta, philadelphia, recipe

shot_1360519917524I opted for another dinner recipe this week, choosing this Philly Lemon Chicken Pasta recipe from the Philadelphia website.

I decided to use broccoli as well as green beans because I do love my veg and wanted to include some more to bulk out the portions a bit.

One of the best things about this recipe is how versatile it is – Mum doesn’t like pasta, but I was able to serve her up a portion of chicken in the creamy Philadelphia sauce with some potatoes instead. Plus, all of the pasta and veg gets cooked in the same pan so that’s a big bonus for ease!

shot_1360519921467

The general consensus was very positive with the whole family agreeing that it was delicious – definitely one to store in the recipe file!

shot_1360077283404It was another simple week, with a lovely walk in the park, a new recipe and a weekend of birthdays and gigs…

shot_1360077288107

shot_1360077295432From the start I didn’t want to include pre-made cards, so I’ve been trying to include lots of pictures, journal notes and titles that I create myself. Hopefully as the weeks go on these will get better and more varied!
